So you’re on a diet? But the cake in front of you looks nice and creamy and you are tempted to sink your teeth into a delectable slice!
Now how does one combat unexpected temptation like this? How does one stay on a diet and emerge triumphant?

Simple. It just takes some willpower and sensible eating and presto! You’re a winner. Here’s part 1 of our willpower series to help you keep going on that weight loss track!

Here are some tips to help you stay on track:
  • Do not starve: Starving is certainly a bad, bad idea. Why? Well, if you starve you will be tempted to eat more. That’s definitely not going to help you. When you starve you think you can eat more when you do eat and still stay on track. No! It will only make you want to add more sugar to your coffee or eat an extra roll. That will never do. Eat sensibly because starving usually leads to binging.

  • Eat varied foods:  You can include some carbs, plenty of proteins, fruits, vegetables, and even a little fat in your diet. Thus, the body gets a sense of satisfaction and hunger is staved off.

  • Drink plenty of water:  Water helps in proper digestion of food, which in the long run keeps you feeling full. This way you will not feel the urge to eat often.

  • Eat food that is well prepared, nourishing and tasty:  Very often we find it hard to stay on a diet because of the boring foods we force ourselves to consume. That is not the way it should be. Remember you are on a diet, not on a killjoy mission. There are various foods that are not fattening but are delicious. A fruity sorbet, a hot flavorful soup or a slice of herbed grilled fish are not only tasty but very healthy!

  • Eat before you attend a party: This will ensure that you will eat less at the party. Fill up your stomach before you go and only nibble on a few items laid out there. Also remember to go easy on the alcohol.

  • Reduce alcohol: Well, this goes without saying. For those of you who are not aware of this, alcohol is calorie loaded. So when you are on a diet, the less alcohol the better.

  • Eat slowly: This helps you savor and prolong a meal. The mind is satisfied and you end up feeling full and contented.

  • You could try sugar substitutes: Nowadays there are varied substitutes, including those made from sucrose. Cutting down on sugar will help you a lot.

  • Watch the weekends:  Avoid snacks, eat before you go out, and maintain a food diary over the weekend.

  • Eat if you feel tempted: Do that. But eat in smaller quantities. You could have a slimmer version of the thick slice you usually would have of the Black Forest cake. This way you will not feel deprived. This will also help you maintain your diet.

Now just watch the pounds melt away. Good luck!
