Looking for a way out of the stressful urban way of life? But are high prices stopping you from taking that much-needed break? Then, maybe a well-planned ‘in your budget’ holiday to Maldives is just for you. “How do I get there?” “Is it really affordable?” Here are your answers!

What’s Maldives all about?
The answer to that question is simple – islands, islands and more islands!
Yes, Maldives is made up of nearly 1200 mini-islands within twenty-six larger ones called atolls. The nation is located on the Indian Ocean to the south of Lakshadweep. This description must have given you a fair idea about the kind of place I’m talking about – heavenly, serene, and pristine!

When should I visit Maldives?

Tourists usually keep flocking Maldives throughout the year. However, the best time to visit the Islands is between October and March. The sun isn’t too harsh then and the weather is cool and pleasant through the day and night.

What’s in store for the budget traveler?

Well, there’s a lot in store for a budget traveler! Since Maldives is essentially a tourist destination, there are plenty of options for all kinds of vacationers.

To start with, there are a number of resorts that offer affordable packages with a plethora of dining and entertainment facilities. These start at around USD300 per head and the duration varies from 3-10 nights. There are 4-star island resorts with amenities like spas that come at a tempting price of approximately USD425 per head for a 7-night package. Most of these beach resorts have plenty of water-sports packages that include scuba-diving, wind surfing, rafting, and water-skiing. You can choose to pay for each sport that you undertake or take up a package. The cost of these packages, however, varies across resorts.

Some of these resorts also include sightseeing in their packages. While in Maldives, you cannot afford to miss the Paradise Islands and the Kuredu Islands known for their white sands and spectacular marine life. The Makunufushi Island is another site that you shouldn’t miss out on. This island is known for its beautiful representation of the Maldivian culture and heritage in its architecture and paintings.

Interesting ground activities, such as forest safaris, mountain treks, hiking, bird-watching, and bungee-jumping, will make your trip more exciting and enticing. The resorts usually provide all the necessary guidance to go about these activities.

Don’t like to be time-table bound? You’re free to pick up a map and discover each of the Maldivian marvels yourself. There are many budget hotels that provide only lodging facilities. So you may want to put up at one of these and explore the enchanting islands on your own. Whatever be the case, you’re surely in for a holiday that you’ll remember for the rest of your life!
